Bhutan’s Dzongs or castles are impressive by any standards, all the more so when you consider that they are ancient wooden structures.  Inside are equally extraordinary temples with detailed paintings and sculptures, by the thousands, of Buddha, Guru Rimpoche and hundreds of other teachers, leaders and deities.

One is not allowed to photograph inside the temples but I was able to capture the paintings in the entranceway to the great Trashichodzong in Thimpu, the seat of government – shown here at night.  

The mural shown here illustrates the story of the 4 friends.  What messages are communicated by this media message?
